Pricing Manifesto
From July 2024-March 2025 Pearl Acupuncture operated under a sliding scale payment model. We have moved into a fixed-rate model which is equally rooted in the principles and concepts explained below—-that collective care is a human right, money is energy which is always fluctuating, and systemic oppressions can affect one’s financial privilege.
This work begins and ends with the understanding that well-being is a human right. Our role as an acupuncture clinic is to contribute to, as intuitive healer Dori Midnight puts it, "a movement towards accessible collective care." To embody this, we charge for services on a sliding scale. This approach reflects the truth that energy is always in fluctuation, including the energy of money. This principle aligns deeply with the principles which govern acupuncture theory.
Sliding scale fees also empower those seeking care by creating opportunities for self-inquiry regarding financial privilege. Writer and medical intuitive Caroline Myss draws a connection between the base of the spine and money. This area, encircled by acupuncture points and channel pathways, is often the root of qi blockages that can manifest as broader issues in one's life. Offering space for reflection around payment can be a healing process in and of itself.
For those struggling to make ends meet due to the impacts of racism, sexism, queerphobia, or domestic violence, we invite you to pay at the lower end of the rate scale. You may also consider reaching out to us about reduced rates. For those not currently affected by these oppressions in a way that impacts your daily finances, we encourage you to pay at the higher end of the scale. Contributions above the posted rates are always welcome.
Finally, we dedicate a portion of Pearl income to causes aligned with the values of this medicine. We prioritize supporting initiatives that champion BIPOC acupuncturists and indigenous communities. Paying for treatment at Pearl directly helps fund these causes. As trance channel and astrologer Joan Pancoe reminds us, "never underestimate the power of the ripple effect."
